Rockport Mayor Todd Pearson is inviting Rockport residents and business owners/operators to enter the city's inaugural “Rockport in Bloom.”

“This is a friendly competition to beautify our wonderful city using floral displays and blooming plants,” said Pearson.

Entries will be judged in the five categories - residences, businesses, churches, schools, and governmental buildings.

Representatives from the Corpus Christi Botanical Gardens will judge entries May 16.

“Everyone who enters will receive an invitation to the 2009 Volunteers in Bloom Appreciation Reception and Awards Ceremony at which winners will be announced,” said the mayor.

Keep Rockport Beautiful (KRB) is the driving force behind the contest. Additional information can be read on the group's website www.keeprockportbeautiful.com.

“We are planting pride in Rockport,” said KRB's Pat Hall.

KRB representatives are available to speak to groups. If interested in having a KRB representative speak to your group, call Hall at 790-6511, or Karen Sanders at 790-5836.

" How many will comment for this little girl. No family to hold her and her life taken away. This is a ridiculous accident. People drive like they are the only ones on the road. Enforce the laws. "
